The Unit of Computer Science has the following course at masters and Postgraduate Diploma.

1. MASTER OF SCIENCE IN COMPUTER SCIENCE

2. MASTER OF SCIENCE IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

3. MASTER OF SCIENCE IN SOFTWARE ENGINEERING

4. POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN COMPUTER SCIENCE

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN COMPUTER SCIENCE

(MSc.CS)

1. Aim of the Master of Science in Computer Science

The Master of Science in Computer Science (MSc.CSc) is a two-year day and evening and weekend degree programme. Its aim is to prepare postgraduate persons capable of developing and implementing new software for local and international use, reengineering existing software for required application and conducting in-depth research and troubleshooting in the computer science field. The programme consists of lectures, tutorials, practicals and individual research projects.

1.1 Specific Objectives

The specific objectives of the Master of Science in Computer Science degree programme shall be to prepare postgraduates capable to do the following.

i) Elicit user requirements

ii) Develop algorithms

iii) Analyse algorithms

iv) Develop software for local and international use

v) Program in low and high level languages

vi) Implement databases

vii) Implement network systems

viii) Administer network systems

ix) Develop and maintain web sites

x) Implement management information systems

xi) Oversee computer and information security

xii) Conduct in-depth research in the field of computing

xiii) Carry out project planning and management

xiv) Manage human resource

2. Types of courses

Courses are classified in three categories: CORE (compulsory), which must be taken by a student in order to qualify for the award of the degree; ELECTIVE, which may be taken by a student to make up the minimum unit requirements for the award of the degree and AUDITED, which a student may attend but shall not be examined in.

3. Admission Requirements

One will first satisfy the general requirements for admission to Kampala International University prior to being considered for admission to the programme. Admission to the programme shall be open to the following category of candidate.

i) Holder of a minimum of second class honours undergraduate degree that has content rich in computer science, information technology or mathematics;

ii) Holder of postgraduate diploma in computer science;

iii) Person that possesses demonstrable wide experience n the practice of computer science.

4. Programme Structure

The programme consists of taught courses and individual research project.
