MASTER OF SCIENCE IN SOFTWARE ENGINEERING PROGRAMME

(MSc. SSE.)

1. Aim of the Master of Science in Software Engineering

The Master of Science in Software Engineering (MSc.SWEng.) is a two-year day and evening degree programme. Its aim is to prepare postgraduate persons capable of effective teams that engineer large software for local and international use, manage teams involved in developing large software, cost large software for required application and conduct in-depth research and troubleshooting in the software engineering field. The programme consists of lectures, tutorials, practicals and individual research projects.

1.1 Specific Objectives

The specific objectives of the Master of Science in Software Engineering degree programme shall be to prepare postgraduates capable to do the following.

ix) Develop algorithms

x) Analyse algorithms

xi) Program in low and high level languages

xii) Prove program correctness

xiii) Develop large software for local and international use

xiv) Manage teams involved in development of large software

xv) Cost large software

xvi) Develop and maintain web sites

xvii) Oversee computer and information security

xviii) Conduct in-depth research in the field of software engineering

xix) Carry out project planning and management

xx) Manage human resource

2. Types of Courses

Courses are classified in three categories: CORE (compulsory), which must be taken by a student in order to qualify for the award of the degree; ELECTIVE, which may be taken by a student to make up the minimum unit requirements for the award of the degree and AUDITED, which a student may attend but shall not be examined in.

3. Admission Requirements

One will first satisfy the general requirements for admission to Kampala International University prior to being considered for admission to the programme. Admission to the programme shall be open to the following category of candidate.

vii) Holder of a minimum of second class honours undergraduate degree that has content rich in computer science, software engineering or mathematics;

viii) Holder of postgraduate diploma in computer science or software engineering;

ix) Person that possesses demonstrable wide experience n the practice of software engineering.

4. Programme Structure

The programme consists of taught courses and individual research project.
